Studio 3 Arts is a wonderful non-profit community project that asked for our help to be able to buy a piano. In their own words:

“The piano has now been installed at our new space in a re-purposed shop at the heart of the Shopping Centre in Barking where it will be used on three of our projects over the course of this year: Big Deal young people’s music making; Celebrating Age older people’s music making; the Singing Collective. Big Deal and Celebrating Age are due to get going over the next few months. In the meantime the Singing Collective is already up and running. Here’s a brief report on the project from the choir leader Linton Bennett:

Singing Collective
Studio 3 Arts’ were inspired to form an intergenerational community choir with an ‘open door’ policy, no auditions necessary, newcomers always welcome. I’m excited to say, that after only running for 2 months, the choir now has 10 dedicated adult members and we expect the expansion of the group through friend recommendations alongside S3A’s promotional campaign. Being based in the shopping mall and being exposed to the surrounding environment has encouraged a wide cultural range of people to sign up, sing up and enjoy making music together. The advantage of having a great electric piano to accompany them enhances the rich tapestry of cultural tones from across the generations. Also, because the piano is in public view, it helps entice passers-by to pop in, leading some to join the group. The choir’s aim is for community cohesion from all backgrounds to explore and develop the power of the human voice in harmony and its’ strength in bringing the community together”.
